The committee is reviewing awarding scholarships for part-time students, multi-year renewal scholarships, and a peerreview journal for NSPS.NSPS PAC:The NSPS political action committee (NSPS PAC) is the political arm of NSPS and the surveying profession in Washington, DC. By law, no NSPS funds can be used for political campaign purposes.That%u2019s where the NSPS PAC comes in. NSPS must rely on individual surveyors%u2019 generous, voluntary, personal contributions to the PAC. The NSPS PAC is the legal, ethical, and professional way for membership organizations, such as NSPS, to engage in our great political process.The PAC helps build a better future for the surveying profession by pooling personal contributions from individual NSPS members and contributing to the election campaigns of deserving candidates and incumbents for federal office based on their records, policy positions, and leadership responsibilities.The Jefferson Club was created a few years ago to accept personal contributions to the PAC. At the Spring meetings, Jon Warren, NSPS PAC Chair, presented new tiers of Jefferson Club Membership contributions: $1000 (Benjamin Banneker), $500 (Andrew Ellicott), and $250 (Jeremiah Dixon) per year to the NSPS PAC. ALTA/NSPS Committee:The committee is currently reviewing approximately 30 items, such as the importance of parole evidence and character, location, and description of monuments. It hopes to provide recommendations for revisions to the standards in 2025.Model LaA motion was brought forth to accept the language of the motion regarding the Model Law from the Fall 2023 NSPS meeting. The original motion was for the updated Model Law language, as proposed by NSPS and URISA, to be forwarded to NCEES for review and consideration of adoption. This motion was defeated. After much discussion, a new motion was put forth for NSPS to respond to URISA, stating that NSPS rejected their proposed language and would continue to review Model Law and rules on its behalf. This motion passed. The Model Law Special Committee will bring any recommendations for updates or changes to the Fall 2024 meeting.NALS was presented with a State Affiliate Award from NSPS, honoring our 50th Anniversary as a state association.The Fall 2024 meetings will be held October 21-23, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Engineers, Inc.Manhard ConsultingAspen EarthworksOn September 18th we had a great turnout for our Lahontan Chapter meeting where we welcomed USFS surveyors Kass Kozloski and Tom Potts as they presented on their work surveying patented and acquired public lands as well as mineral surveys within the public domain. As technical as any survey work, this is also a fascinating history lesson into the original PLSS and mineral surveys of the late 1800%u2019s and early 1900%u2019s.
