The Nevada Traverse Vol.51, No.3, 2024 39Congratulations on surviving the hottest summer to date in southern Nevada. This time of year for many is also the beginning of a new school year. I think back to this time when there was always a mix of excitement and terror. The unknown challenges, changes, and new social settings always brought on that fear, but a certain thrill came with it as well. Now, as an adult and a professional, I feel we miss out on those moments of excitement that were a regular part of our youth. Work and projects become continuous, and it%u2019s hard to acknowledge when something new starts. I encourage everyone to look for ways to restore this excitement in their personal and professional lives. Surveying is a great profession and should be enjoyed with a balanced and fruitful personal life. Speaking of school, SNALS recently met with Dr. Sims from CSN, and I can tell you that the wheels are turning behind the scenes. While the new CSN 4-year degree for the survey is not officially kicking off this fall, it will be kicked off in the spring of 2025 to give time for the new faculty to build the program. One of the objectives of this program is to become ABET accredited prior to the first surveying student graduating. This accreditation would allow any CSN graduate to seek licensure in any state that requires the ABET accreditation. We have a busy and fulfilling second half of the year planned for our southern chapter. Here are the upcoming events:%u2022%u0009 Breakfast Roundtable, Saturday, September 7th%u2014This event will be worth 4 PDHs and held from 7:30 a.m. until noon. Breakfast is included. The topic is original subdivision monumentation. Attendees will participate in small group discussions led by a table moderator. We are excited to bring this type of event back to the membership. %u2022%u0009 Inter-agency Membership Meeting, Thursday evening, September 12th - This meeting is our annual interagency meeting, where we have representatives from our local agencies coming to give us an update on the highlights of what has been and is to come for the season. Charleston, formerly the Mt. Charleston Hotel. We are working hard to make this a fun event for all, and it will include the option to reserve a room at the resort. If you have any questions about any of these events, please reach out to myself or any chapter member as we are broadcasting the details for these events to members on a regular basis. For your Southern Chapter Board, this is the time of year when plans are already being started for next year. Whether that%u2019s serving as an officer, being a director or volunteering to be on a committee, the Southern Chapter could always use your help. The current board is a great mix of members who have served for many years and members who are serving for the first time. There%u2019s no better way to get to know your fellow surveyors than when you are tackling issues shoulder to shoulder.I wish you all a prosperous second half of the year and as always, I am humbled to be serving as your president.SouthernChapter UpdateBy: Erik Denman, PLSDue Dates:January 25th, April 25th, July 25th, October 25thTo submit and article or to request information regarding advertising, please contact the NALS Executive OfficeNALS Executive OfficeT.
